The International Student Festival-2025 was organized by the Foreign Students Registry (FSR) University of Delhi on Tuesday, March 11. On this occasion, Amb. Shashank (Ex-Foreign Secretary of the Government of India) was present as the chief guest and the program was presided over by Prof. Yogesh Singh, Vice Chancellor, University of Delhi. High Commissioner of the Republic of Fiji, Jagannath Sami was the guest of honour of the program. During the program, students from different countries presented cultural programs showcasing the culture of their respective countries.
Addressing the international students, the chief guest of the program, Shashank said that each of you can work to develop your country's partnership with India. He said that Indian philosophy is different from Western philosophy. Our thinking is that the more you share your knowledge and wisdom with others, the more you will gain and others will gain too. Guest of honour of the program Jagannath Sami said that it is a matter of pride for me to come to the motherland of my ancestors. The roots of Fiji's culture and history are deeply connected with India. Fiji is mini India in itself. When Indian people went to Fiji, they took with them holy books like Ramayana, Mahabharata, Gita, Quran and Bible, which strengthened them mentally and religiously. They have maintained their identity through Ram Leela, Krishna Leela and bhajans etc.
Addressing this occasion, DU VC Prof. Yogesh Singh said in his presidential address that international students studying in DU should also visit different states of India so that they can understand India's rich culture by observing it. He said that DU was the first university in India which established an office with the Department of African Studies for foreign students in 1956. The Vice Chancellor said that 10% supernumerary seats have been allocated for international students in all courses from diploma and degree to PhD in DU. In the past years, we have provided quality education to thousands of foreign students. Referring to the strong presence of many DU alumni in their countries, he said that there are many personalities including the current President of Mauritius Gokul Dharma, current Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Harini Amarsuriya, Nobel Prize winner of Myanmar Aung San Suu and former Prime Minister of Nepal Girija Prasad Koirala who have brought glory to DU in the world. The Vice Chancellor said that we are proud of our international alumni who are making their valuable contribution to world development along with strengthening their countries.
Dean FSR Prof. Amarjiva Lochan said that international students from 45 countries from all over the world are studying in DU. Students from all countries have prepared cultural presentations of their respective countries for this program. On this occasion, Buddhist monks presented prayers. Artists from Tibet, Fiji, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Venezuela, Thailand and South Korea etc. kept the audience captivated by giving wonderful performances. During this, Chairperson DU Culture Council Anoop Lather, many ambassadors, counsellors and representatives of many countries, along with many teachers and many students were present.
