‘Bharat Ka Vibhajan aur Manviye Rishton ke Hanan ki Dastan’

Centre for Independence and Partition Studies, University of Delhi in collaboration with Department of Punjabi, Dyal Singh College organized One Day National Seminar on ‘Bharat Ka Vibhajan aur Manviye Rishton ke Hanan ki Dastan’ on 18th February 2025. The seminar was inaugurated with lamp lighting and recitation of Sarasvati Vandana by the students of Dyal Singh College followed by Kulgeet of the University of Delhi. The seminar was attended by eminent academicians and more than 200 participants.
Prof V. K. Paliwal, Principal of Dyal Singh College welcomed all guests and Prof Ravinder Kumar, Director Independence and Partition Studies addressed the inaugural session for the seminar. Noted academicians Prof Shri Prakash Singh (Director South Campus, University of Delhi) and Prof Payal Mago (Director Campus of Open Learning, University of Delhi) graced the inaugural session. Prof Shri Prakash Singh enlightened the gathering about the conception and relevance of Centre for Independence and Partition Studies and Prof Payal Mago highlighted the plight of the affected persons and the atrocities met during the partition. Prof Alka Gupta (Director IQAC , Dyal Singh College) extended vote of thanks for the inaugural session.
The second session was chaired by Prof Amrit Basra, Delhi College of Arts and Commerce. The speakers for the second session were Dr Bhuvan Kumar Jha, Department of History, University of Delhi, Prof Himanshu Roy, Centre for Political Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University and Prof Ravinder Singh, Department of Punjabi, Dyal Singh College. Prof Jha highlighted the intent and economic benefits derived to the businesses during partition, Prof Roy explained the role of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and Md Ali Jinnah during the period of partition and lastly, Prof Ravinder Singh highlighted the breaking of composite culture which brought distressed and traumatic experiences for the uprooted families. He also emphasized that the concept of partition was forced upon on common people which was never desired by them. Prof Amrit Basra spoke about the uniqueness of Research Centre at Centre of Independence and Partition Studies which would facilitate students of 4th year undergraduate studies during their research work. Prof Jyoti Trehan Sharma, Joint Director, Centre for Independence and Partition Studies concluded the seminar with vote of thanks to eminent academicians and participants.
Dr Jyoti Paul and Dr Rajesh Kumar Abhay from Dyal Singh College compared the sessions for the seminar. The coordinators for the seminar were Dr Rattan deep Kaur and Dr Harmeet Kaur from Department of Punjabi, Dyal Singh College. The organizing team for the conduct of seminar were Dr Jyoti Paul, Dr Rajesh Kumar Abhay, Dr Neetu Bhattacharya, Dr Daljeet Singh, Mr Madhurendra Singh, Mr Anil Kumar, Mr Rakesh Kumar and Dr Abu Zahir Rabbani.
