Education Minister awards medals to 10 talented students at DU's 101st convocation

New Delhi, February 22.

Addressing as the chief guest at the 101st convocation of University of Delhi, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan called upon the students to take a pledge to make Delhi the knowledge hub of the world in the coming days. Along with this, he also called upon University of Delhi to take its leadership. During this, Dharmendra Pradhan awarded digital degrees to 166494 students by clicking on the tab with his own hands. Along with this, the Education Minister awarded medals/prizes to 10 talented students. While presiding over the convocation, University of Delhi Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh said to the newly graduated students that hard work makes even the seemingly impossible tasks possible.

In his convocation address, the Education Minister said that there would be no district or village in the country where the footprints of DU have not reached. DU is not just a university, but a mini India. Around 7 lakh students study here in direct and open learning mode. Students from 85 countries of the world are also studying here. Dharmendra Pradhan congratulated the newly graduated students and said that your new life is starting from today. He said that perhaps the new Prime Minister of the country can emerge from among the students of DU. Congratulating DU alumnus Mrs. Rekha Gupta on becoming the Chief Minister of Delhi, he said that this is a moment of pride for DU. Along with this, remembering former Finance Minister Late Shri Arun Jaitley, he said that many eminent personalities have brought glory to the country by passing out of DU. 

Addressing the students, Dharmendra Pradhan said that from here you are also taking social practice and social skills which will be very useful in life. He said that the National Education Policy-2020 has come from the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take India to the global level. The minister also congratulated DU for implementing NEP first. Along with this, he said that the Prime Minister has resolved to make the country a Viksit Bharat by 2047 and this will be possible only when NEP is implemented properly in the entire country under the leadership of DU. We have to stay connected to our roots and also look at the future, only then we will be ready for the future. Expressing happiness over the expansion of DU, he said that DU already had its North and South campuses, and now East and West campuses are also being built under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh.

DU Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh welcomed the Education Minister while presiding over the ceremony. He also presented a detailed account of the university's glorious journey of 102 years. The Vice Chancellor presented the figures of degrees, prizes and medals. He told the students participating in the convocation that the higher the tree is, the deeper its roots should be, otherwise it will fall in a single storm. Therefore, you also have to become a tree with large height and deep roots. He said that you will be able to do well only if you have a feeling of happiness and world’s welfare in your mind. There should be no conflict between your interest and the country's interest. If there is conflict, then you have to leave your interest aside and look at the country's interest. Along with this, the Vice Chancellor said to the teachers that a teacher should enjoy teaching. If a teacher does not enjoy teaching, then he has come into the wrong profession. The Vice Chancellor said to the students that we are respected only because of you all. DU is proud of you and you should always keep making us proud in this way. Along with this, the Vice Chancellor took a pledge from everyone that they will not do any such work in their life which is against the country.

In the second phase of the ceremony, medals/prizes were given to all the remaining students who received medals and prizes from DU Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh. On this occasion, Dean of Colleges Prof. Balaram Pani, Director of South Campus Prof. Shri Prakash Singh, Director of SOL Prof. Payal Mago, Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta and Controller of Examinations Prof. Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, Deans, Department Heads, Faculty, officers, officials and thousands of students and their parents were present.


623 got PhD degree

In the 101st convocation of DU, a total of 623 students including 316 male and 307 female students were awarded PhD degree. Apart from these, a total of 83902 students including regular students of DU and students of NCWEB were awarded degrees, out of which 77227 are undergraduates, 6646 are postgraduates and 29 are students of five-year programmes. A total of 194 medals and prizes were also given during the convocation in which 159 gold medals and one silver medal were awarded to UG and PG students. Similarly, a total of 34 prizes were also given to UG and PG students. Apart from these, degrees were also given to 82592 students of SOL, out of which 79742 are undergraduates and 2850 are postgraduates.
