Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College, University of Delhi organized a One-Day Interdisciplinary International Seminar on the theme “Politics, Economy and Media Culture: Amid Global Transitions.”
The seminar was jointly organised by the CIVIL, KIRT and KALAM Societies of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College, University of Delhi.
The programme commenced with a Gurbani Shabad followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Seminar Convenor from Political Science Department, Dr. Kamla presented the introductory note, highlighting the contemporary relevance of the theme. Chairman Sardar Sukhbir Singh Kalra and Officiating Principal Dr. Baljeet Singh warmly welcomed the distinguished guests and appreciated the collaborative academic initiative.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Baljeet Singh emphasized that politics, economy and media collectively shape global discourse and influence governance, education and public policy. Seminar Convenor from Economics Department, Dr. Mamta Ahuja introduced the eminent speakers and underlined the importance of such academic platforms for intellectual enrichment and student engagement.
The Chief Guest, Prof. Sushma Yadav, UGC Full Commission Member and former VC of BPS Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, Haryana and former PVC of Central university of Haryana and IGNOU emphasised that the ultimate aim of classrooms and seminars is the expansion of knowledge, irrespective of language. She reflected upon changing global dynamics and highlighted the interconnected role of politics, economy and media in shaping higher education and social justice.Guest of Honour Prof. Ashok Mittal, former VC of Dr. BR Ambedkar University, Agra examined the transformation of democratic institutions in the era of globalization and the growing impact of media culture on governance. Ms. Kamalpreet Kaur, Councillor from Hillingdon, London, shared her international perspectives on public policy and social responsibility. Special Guest, Prof. Neelam Choudhary, former head , MDU Rohtak analysed global transformations in modern era. Seminar Convenor Dr. Gopinath Pillai emphasised the interrelationship between Economics,Politics and Social Media.
The seminar witnessed participation from scholars representing premier institutions such as Panjab University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Kurukshetra University, Jamia Millia Islamia, Indira Gandhi National Open University, and IIFT. Nearly 40 research papers were presented across four parallel sessions in Punjabi, Hindi and English. Themes included globalization, artificial intelligence, media ethics, diaspora literature, energy politics, economic inequality, multiculturalism, and women’s representation in cinema.
In the Valedictory Session, Prof. Amanpreet Gill described politics, economy and media as a triangular framework of modern society. Seminar Convenor from Punjabi Department,
Dr. Simran Kaur Sethi concluded the seminar with a vote of thanks, reiterating that politics must ultimately serve humanity and ethical values. The seminar emerged as a significant academic platform fostering meaningful dialogue on global transitions.
