92nd Annual Meeting of DU Court
Vice Chancellor took strong cognizance of members not attending the meeting
2,46,194 students had registered for UG in the academic session 2024-25, 70423 got admission: Prof. Yogesh Singh

The 92nd Annual Court Meeting of University of Delhi was held on Friday, 21 March under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh. The Vice Chancellor took strong cognizance of the less attendance of members in the meeting and asked Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta to send notice to all the HODs, principals, deans and professors who were absent in the meeting. At the beginning of the meeting, the Vice Chancellor presented the achievements of the university. The Vice Chancellor informed that in the academic session 2024-25, there were 69 colleges and 79 programs for undergraduate admission for which the number of registered candidates was 2 lakh, 46 thousand 194. Among these, the total number of preferences received for DU was 1 crore, 72 lakh, 18 thousand, 187. The total number of unique cutoffs and ranks considered for allocation by the admission branch of DU was 5 crore, 68 lakh, 20 thousand, 017. A total of 70,422 students were admitted in this academic session.
Presenting the data of promotions and appointments of the last three and a half years, Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh said that till now a total of 7423 promotions have been made on academic posts in various colleges and departments, out of which 7019 promotions have been made in colleges and 404 in the departments of the university. Presenting the data of new appointments, he said that till now a total of 4784 academic appointments have been made, out of which 4447 have been made in colleges and 337 in various departments of the university. 43 Appointments have also been made on non-academic posts, which include 7 librarians, 35 assistant librarians and one controller of examinations. The number of appointments and promotions of non-teaching staff so far is 1981.

The Vice Chancellor said that DU is continuously expanding itself. Giving information about engineering projects, he said that work is going on on the various projects at a cost of Rs 1838.41 crore. The Vice Chancellor said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone of two new campuses and a college of DU on January 3, 2025. He said that the East campus to be built in Surajmal Vihar will meet the growing demand for higher education in East Delhi and the West campus to be built in Dwarka Sector 22 will provide access to quality education to the students of West Delhi. He said that admissions will be started in Veer Savarkar College being built in Roshanpura (Najafgarh) from this academic session itself.
Many new programs started including M.Tech. Computer Science
Referring to the new academic initiatives taken in the university, Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh said that M.Tech. Computer Science program is being started in the Computer Science Department with 30 seats from this year. Apart from this, many new programs have been started including BA (Hons) in Russian, DM (Geriatric Mental Health), DM (Pulmonary Medicine), M.Sc. Psychiatry (Mental Health), DM in Geriatric Mental Health.
Personality Development and Communication is the most popular among skill enhancement courses
Giving detailed information about the Skill Enhancement (SEC) courses, Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh said that the most popular among them is the “Personality Development and Communication” course. In this academic session, 38642 students have chosen this subject. The second most popular subject is “Political Leadership and Communication” which has been chosen by 36193 students. On the third position is “Digital Marketing” which has been chosen by 35370 students and on the fourth position is “Communication in Everyday Life” which has been chosen by 31185 students. Similarly, among value addition courses, the highest number of 69457 students have chosen “Digital Empowerment” while on the second position is “Financial Literacy” which has been chosen by 54401 students. “Constitutional Values and the Art of Being Happy” has been chosen by 37244 students. The Vice Chancellor said that this shows that more students are choosing subjects related to communication. He asked to all the principals to pay more attention to these subjects. The Vice Chancellor informed that in the recently held 38th AIU Inter-University National Youth Festival, DU received 13 awards and got third position overall.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh informed that Delhi School of Economics alumnus Professor Bibek Debroy has been awarded the Padma Bhushan award, India's third highest civilian award this year. Delhi School of Economics Professor KL Krishna and Professor VR Panchmukhi have been awarded the Padma Shri award, India's fourth highest civilian award. He informed that recently DU's senior professor and head of the Zoology department Professor Reena Chakraborty has been awarded the Visitor's Award for research in biological sciences by President Draupadi Murmu for her research contribution in sustainable freshwater aquaculture.
