'Journal of Indian Knowledge System (JIKS), Published by Brill, Launched at Delhi University'

May 11, New Delhi – The Journal of Indian Knowledge Systems (JIKS), an initiative of the Indian Knowledge Systems and Heritage Association (IKSHA), published by the prestigious UK-based publishing house Brill, was formally launched on May 11, 2025, by Prof. Jagadeesh Kumar, former Chairman of the University Grants Commission, at Maharshi Kanad Bhawan, University of Delhi.
The launch ceremony was graced by several eminent personalities, including Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, Chairperson, Executive Committee, National Assessment and Accreditation Council; Prof. Dhananjay Singh, Member Secretary, ICSSR; Prof. Ganti S. Murthy, National Coordinator, IKS Division, Ministry of Education; Prof. Om Jee Upadhyay, Member Secretary, ICHR; Prof. Sachchidanand Mishra, Member Secretary, ICPR; and Prof Shri Prakash Singh, Director, South Campus, University of Delhi. The event also witnessed the presence of intellectuals, academicians, and scholars from across the country.
In his address, Prof. Jagadesh Kumar emphasized the urgent need for high-quality international journals in the field of Indian Knowledge Systems. He underlined the importance of mainstreaming Indian intellectual traditions and their conceptual frameworks to better understand the human condition.
Prof Sahasrabudhe, Chairperson, EC, NAAC, said that JIKS is dedicated to the study of India and its civilizational evolution through various dimensions of human experience. It draws from Indian texts and contexts—_shastra_ and _loka parampara_—as sources of knowledge production. The journal employs Indian epistemological frameworks and _drishti_ to nurture and promote Indian Knowledge Systems.
The IKSHA team comprises of distinguished intellectuals and domain experts from IITs (Roorkee, Kanpur, Guwahati, Madras, Hyderabad, and Delhi), as well as academicians from central universities and other institutions of national eminence.
Prof. Ganti S. Murty, National Coordinator, IKS Division, Ministry of Education, stated that the journal highlights the contemporary relevance of Indian knowledge traditions. It covers a wide range of intellectual fields including aesthetics, art, architecture, cognitive and psychological sciences, economic and political sciences, and science and technology. The journal includes both a deconstructive track—interrogating Western universality—and a constructive track focused on developing alternative theoretical frameworks.
