 Exposure visit program of principals of schools organized in Delhi University

It is necessary to provide proper guidance to the students for their entry from school education to higher education: DU Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta

Under the initiative by CBSE under NEP 2020, a one-day exposure visit program was organized by University of Delhi for the principals of CBSE affiliated schools. 96 principals of CBSE affiliated schools participated in this program. Inaugurating the introductory session of this program organized at the Council Hall at ViceRegal Lodge of the University, DU Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta welcomed all the principals. He said that the objective of this program is how we can together provide proper guidance to the students for their entry from school education to higher education, especially vocational education. He said that this is a very important task.

Dr. Vikas Gupta said that after completing their school education, school students have to go to college for higher education. In such a situation, their teachers can guide them properly. Under NEP 2020, admissions in DU are done through CUET only; therefore, this program is very important. He also highlighted the glorious history of 102 years of DU and told that DU has started the Vice Chancellor Internship Scheme under the dynamic guidance of Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh. Apart from this, special provision has also been made in university admissions for orphan children and single girl child.

                   


Dr. Biswajit Saha, Director (CBSE) thanked DU for this cooperation. He said that through this program our principals will be able to get direct experience of the university system. He said that the admission process in higher educational institutions is very crucial. How to prepare school students for that, this information will be given to our principals through this program. He said that Viksit Bharat is a dream and cooperation of all of us is very important to make it a reality. On this occasion, Director of Campus of Open Learning Prof. Payal Mago, Dean (Academic Affairs) Prof. K. Ratnabali, Dean Admission Prof. Haneet Gandhi and Joint Registrar (Academic) Jay Chanda etc. were mainly present.

After the introduction session of the program, an orientation session was organized in which Prof. Payal Mago, Director of Campus of Open Learning and Chairperson of SEC Committee of DU, presented detailed information on skill education as per NEP 2020 and UGCF 2022. Prof. Payal Mago, while explaining skill education through PPT, said that skill education is very important. She said that if the students have to be 'ready to job', then attention will have to be paid to skill enhancement courses. Prof. Payal Mago said that 140 skill courses are running in DU. 

Dean (Academic Affairs) Prof. K. Ratnabali presented detailed information on the Seamless Transition from School to Higher Education through curricular & credit structure. Giving detailed information about various programs being run in DU under NEP 2020, she informed that the fourth year of UG is starting from this session. Prof. Ratnabali informed that under NEP 2020, there is a provision for multiple exit and entry for students. 


Dean Admission Prof. Haneet Gandhi presented a detailed description of the admission process of DU. She said that all kinds of information are available on the admission website of DU in the form of videos and brochures. She called upon the principals to tell the students to get information only from authentic sources. After this, an interactive session was organized in which the principals cleared their queries. After that, all the principals were taken on a tour of DU's skill laboratory/skill development centres.
