1021st meeting of DU Academic Council held
Vice Chancellor directs to settle all pending promotion cases by February 28

The 1021st meeting of the University of Delhi Academic Council (AC) was held under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh in the Council Hall of the University on Friday, December 27. At the beginning of the meeting, tribute was paid to former Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh by observing two minutes of silence. During the Academic Council meeting, the Vice Chancellor directed the Principals / Directors of all the colleges to settle all the promotion cases by February 28, 2025. All the AC members present in the House welcomed this decision of the Vice Chancellor.
At the beginning of the meeting, during the Zero Hour, the members of the Council discussed many issues in detail and presented their views and suggestions. During the meeting, Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta placed the minutes of the 1020th meeting of the AC held on October 10 before the Academic Council for confirmation and presented the 'Action Taken Report' on the decisions taken in the meetings.
On the issue of promotion in colleges raised by the AC members during the zero hour in the Academic Council, the Vice Chancellor, taking immediate action, directed the principals to settle all the promotion cases by February 28, 2025. A letter has also been issued by the College Branch in this regard. Through this letter, the Principals / Directors have been requested to take necessary steps to settle all the pending cases of promotion of teaching staff in the college / institutes under the respective CAS through the IQAC of the college / institute on priority basis and complete the entire process by February 28, 2025. However, if the colleges/institutions fail to complete the promotion process by February 28, 2025, they will have to obtain explicit approval from the Vice Chancellor for extension of the above deadline.
On a question regarding health facilities, DU South Campus Director Prof. Sri Prakash Singh informed that on the instructions of Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh, the work of making DU Health Center a four-storey building has started, to increase the health facilities in the university. The number of doctors will also be increased there. He informed that a hospital of Railways has also been affiliated to DU with the condition that it will provide medical facilities to all the teaching and non-teaching staff of DU at par with the railway employees.
While discussing the agenda of today's meeting, the curriculum of various departments/programs has been approved on the basis of UGCF. Along with this, the recommendations of the Oversight Committee to increase the admission in DM (Neuroanaesthesia) course at G.B. Pant Institute of PG Education & Research (GIPMER) from 02 to 04 seats per year from the academic session 2025-2026 were considered and approved, subject to permission by the funding agency i.e., Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India / National Medical Commission. Further, admission in B.Sc. (Medical Technology) Radiology course at Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) with 10 (ten) seats from the academic session 2025-2026 was also approved, subject to permission from the funding agency i.e., Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, regulatory body (Atomic Energy Regulatory Board) and National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP).
The AC also approved the implementation of NEP 2020 in the postgraduate (PG) programs of the university. Under this, the draft of “Postgraduate Curriculum Framework 2024” (PGCF 2024), based on NEP 2020, was also approved after thorough discussion.
The recommendations of the Governing Body of the Centre for Hindu Studies to start PhD in Hindu Studies from the academic session 2025-2026 instead of 2024-2025 were accepted and approved by the Academic Council.
The decision to reserve additional seats for single girl students in postgraduate programmes has also been approved by the AC. Under this, one seat in each programme will be reserved for single girl students under the supernumerary quota.
